September updates from Story Box Library

Story Box Library’s (SBL) next online event, Whose story gets to be shared? Creating a diverse library will be held 7pm (AEST) Tuesday 19 October.

Featuring academic Dr Helen Adam and author Melissa Keil, the event will explore the importance of representation and diversity in children’s literature and practical ways to ensure all children are heard and seen through stories. Register here.

Developed for children aged 8 to 10, Mount Gambier Library has chosen exciting SBL story reads for kids and families to explore from home, via their online book club for kids.

Explore SBL’s Auslan Story Time series, in time to celebrate the National Week of Deaf People (20-26 September).

Upcoming story releases:

  • Read by AFL Footballer Ben Brown, Little Ned is a story about the pitfalls of being too careful. Written by Michael Wagner, illustrated by Adam Carruthers, and published by Hardie Grant Children's Publishing.
  • Maya and Cat is an inspiring picture book about friendship and resilience from one of Australia’s most renowned author-illustrators, Caroline Magerl. Read by radio announcer and TV personality Myf Warhurst and published by Walker Books.
  • Written by Jane Godwin and illustrated by A. Yi, Ivanhoe Swift Left Home at Six is a delightful story about setting off to see the world... and the joy in coming home again. Read by Alex Miles at State Library of Victoria, and published by Allen & Unwin.
