    The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards have been announced!  Formerly known as the AFI Awards, winners included: Red Dog (the winner of the Samsung AACTA Award for Best Film), Snowtown (4 awards including Best Direction, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Lead Actor and Best Supporting Actress) and Oranges and Sunshine.  Television was well covered with The Slap winning five awards.  Cloudstreet, Sisters of War and East West 101 were also popular choices on the night.  Many of the winners are available from James Bennett.  You can download a list of the available DVDs from the winners of the...

    ALA Awards 300

    The American Library Association has announced the 2012 Youth Media Award winners.  The John Newbery Medal for the most outstanding contribution to children's literature was won by Dead End in Norvelt written by Jack Gantos (Farrar Straus Giroux).  Two Newbery Honor Books also were named: Inside Out & Back Again written by Thanhha Lai (HarperCollins Children’s Books) and Breaking Stalin’s Nose, written and illustrated by Eugene Yelchin (Henry Holt).  The  Randolph Caldecott Medal for the most distinguished American picture book for children was won by A Ball for Daisy illustrated and written by Chris Raschka (Schwartz & Wade Books).  Three Caldecott...
