1) World Biographical Information Systems (W BIS) Online
K.G Saur’s “World Biographical Information System (WBIS) Online” is the most comprehensive and extensive biographical library published online. The database contains a vast wealth of biographical information drawn from original sources. It covers men and women of all classes and professions from all the countries and regions of the world, ranging from the 4th millennium BC to the present. These factors combine to give WBIS a social, geographic and historical scope that makes it unique.
WBIS Online is based on the digitization of 56 microfiche collections drawn from K. G. Saur’s biographical archives. A total of 30 digitized biographical archives are currently available online and this is set to grow by between 7 and 9 additional biographical archives per year, equivalent to 1 million biographical entries. The database will be completed in 2010
Unique in its scale the database currently offers:
-
short biographical entries for 4.61 million persons
-
digitized biographical articles on 3.84 million persons
-
a total of 5.46 million biographical articles, published from 1559 to the end of the 20th century.
